Assessing Real-Life Benefit From Hearing-Aid Noise Management: SSQ12 Questionnaire Versus Ecological Momentary Assessment With Acoustic Data-Logging

چکیده
Purpose The purpose of this study was to investigate real-life benefit from directional microphone and noise reduction (“noise management” [NM]) processing using retrospective self-reports smartphone-based ecological momentary assessments (EMAs) combined with logging the acoustic environments. Method A single-blinded, counterbalanced crossover design used. Eleven hearing-impaired adults were bilaterally fitted behind-the-ear devices NM either activated (NM ON ) or deactivated. For self-reports, short scale Speech, Spatial, Qualities Hearing Scale questionnaire (SSQ12) applied. EMAs, hearing aid (HA)–based classifications listening environments (“soundscapes”) experienced by participants To explore potential associations data, two laboratory measures aided speech recognition in administered. Results soundscapes which submitted their EMAs representative they during normal HA use reported literature for older users. SSQ12 EMA scores both showed an overall . scores, together logged revealed that driven being preferred particularly classified as “speech” “speech noise.” unable predict data. Conclusions data-logging is suited more targeted evaluations benefit. Advanced settings can provide subjective user benefits specific situations.

Ecological momentary assessment.
Assessment in clinical psychology typically relies on global retrospective self-reports collected at research or clinic visits, which are limited by recall bias and are not well suited to address how behavior changes over time and across contexts. Ecological momentary assessment (EMA) involves repeated sampling of subjects' current behaviors and experiences in real time, in subjects' natural en...

CONCLUSION This study demonstrates that electric-acoustic stimulation (EAS) significantly decreases the subjective impairment in speech perception. OBJECTIVES To assess the subjective benefit of EAS over the first 12 months after EAS fitting using the Abbreviated Profile of Hearing Aid Benefit (APHAB). METHOD Twenty-three EAS users, implanted with either the PULSAR(CI)(100) FLEX(EAS) provid...
متن کاملAnalysis of prefitting versus postfitting hearing aid orientation using the Glasgow Hearing Aid Benefit Profile (GHABP).
Results of this study demonstrate the advantages of both pre- and postfitting hearing aid orientation (HAO) sessions. This study demonstrated that HAO counseling is helpful in expediting hearing aid benefit and satisfaction through the education of our clients and that this benefit and satisfaction is age dependent as measured by the Glasgow Hearing Aid Benefit Profile (GHABP) (Gatehouse, 1997)...

The aims of this study were to investigate hearing aid satisfaction for a group of older Australians fitted with government-funded hearing aids using the Satisfaction with Amplification in Daily Life (SADL) questionnaire; to compare the Australian data gathered with the provisional normative data reported by Cox and Alexander (1999); and to investigate the relationship between SADL satisfaction...

We failed to note in the article that the PHAB ratings were transformed from frequency of problems to frequency of success (%). Although the traditional method for presenting PHAB results is in terms of frequency of problems, in our laboratory, we express these data as frequency of success (100 frequency of problems rating) so that, when PHAB data are presented graphically with other traditiona...
